A few hours in Kochi is not a few hours in Alleppey

Kochi and Alleppey are different places. A three-hour cruise departing in Alleppey does not fit a three-hour window starting in Kochi. Allow for pickup, road travel, boarding and the return journey.

Ask the provider to account for each direction of road travel separately. Traffic, the pickup area and the actual boarding point can change the plan. If you only have a few hours, reconsider your schedule or look separately at a genuinely local Kochi activity.

Read the destination, not just the platform breadcrumb

Alappuzha is also commonly called Alleppey. Some platforms group Alleppey products under Kochi even when they require you to reach an Alleppey jetty yourself. Other Kochi backwater outings visit places such as Vaikom. These are different destinations.

Before booking, find the actual boarding point in the itinerary. A product appearing in a Kochi search is not evidence that a Kochi transfer is included.

Three practical ways to plan it

For a straightforward full day, compare a transfer-inclusive shikara outing with a transfer-inclusive day houseboat. Choose by boat style, time afloat and meal arrangements.

If you are staying in Alleppey, a local departure gives you more flexibility over start time and duration. For an overnight houseboat, confirm both days of transfers and allow enough time before any onward train or flight.

Get the pickup details in writing

Check these points on the provider’s booking page or through its supported contact process before committing.

• Your exact hotel, port or other pickup address and any surcharge.
• Pickup time, boarding location and approximate return time.
• Whether road transport is private or shared.
• Whether luggage can travel with you and where it stays.
• The cancellation policy and any restrictions for your chosen date.
• Enough buffer for an onward flight, train or cruise departure; do not assume a guaranteed connection.
